EveningLedger.uk is committed to maintaining the highest editorial standards. We take all complaints about our content seriously and aim to resolve issues promptly and transparently. This procedure outlines how to raise a concern about our editorial output — from news articles and analysis to opinion pieces, explainers and briefs.
How to submit a complaint
If you believe an article, headline or other editorial item published by EveningLedger.uk contains a factual inaccuracy, violates our Editorial Policy, or falls short of our professional standards, please send your complaint by email to complaints@eveningledger.uk. This is the dedicated address for all editorial complaints and is monitored by our Standards & Fact-Checking team.
To help us investigate efficiently, please include the following in your email:
- The full URL (web address) of the article or page in question
- The publication date of the content
- A clear statement of the reason for your complaint (e.g. factual error, misleading headline, lack of context, breach of editorial standards)
- The specific statement, claim or passage you are challenging (quote the text directly)
- Supporting evidence — for example, official documents, authoritative sources, or publicly verifiable information that contradicts or clarifies the point in question
- Your full name and a contact email address or phone number so we can follow up
Complaints submitted anonymously or without sufficient detail may be more difficult to process. We encourage you to provide as much context as possible.
How we handle complaints
We will acknowledge receipt of your complaint within 5 working days. The acknowledgement will include a reference number and the name of the team member handling your case. Initial review is conducted by Oliver Trent, our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, or a designated member of the editorial team.
We aim to resolve straightforward complaints — such as minor factual corrections or clear misstatements — within 10 working days. More complex complaints, which may require additional source review, legal consideration or consultation with reporters, may take longer. We will keep you informed of progress and provide an estimated timeline.
Possible outcomes of a complaint include:
- Correction — we amend the article to fix an identified error and add a clear correction note at the foot of the piece.
- Clarification — we add a note to the article to explain a point that may have been ambiguous or misleading.
- Update — we add new information or context without altering the original editorial judgment.
- Removal — in rare cases where content is found to breach standards significantly or is legally problematic, we may remove the article entirely.
- No action — if we determine the complaint is unfounded or the content meets our editorial standards, we will explain our reasoning in writing.
In every case, we will provide a clear, written explanation of the outcome and the reasons behind it. Where we have made a correction, we will link to our Corrections Policy for full transparency.
Escalation to the Editor-in-Chief
If you are unsatisfied with the initial response, or if your complaint concerns a serious matter of editorial integrity, potential legal risk, or significant reputational harm, you may request escalation to our Editor-in-Chief, Edward Langley. Please mark your email “Escalation — Complaint” and send it to edward.langley@eveningledger.uk or, if you prefer, resubmit via complaints@eveningledger.uk with “FAO Edward Langley” in the subject line. Edward will review the case personally and provide a final determination.
