Corrections Policy

EveningLedger.uk is committed to accuracy and transparency. When we make a significant mistake, we correct it promptly and clearly, so our readers can trust what they read. This Corrections Policy explains how we handle errors, how you can report them, and what to expect when you do.

Our commitment to correction

We take responsibility for every piece of content we publish. If an article contains a material error — a factual inaccuracy that could mislead a reader — we will update the article and add a visible correction note. Minor spelling or grammatical mistakes are fixed silently without a note. Updates that add context or new information (without changing the original meaning) are indicated with an update note.

How to report an error

If you spot something that isn’t right, please email our corrections desk at corrections@eveningledger.uk. To help us investigate quickly, please include:

  • The exact headline and URL of the article
  • The specific error you believe exists
  • The correct information, if known, and your source for it
  • Your name and a contact email in case we need to follow up

You can also use our general Contact form, but the corrections desk is the fastest route.

How we handle corrections

All reported errors are reviewed by our Standards & Fact‑Checking Lead, Oliver Trent, and his team. You can meet Oliver and the rest of the editorial staff on our team page. The process works as follows:

  • Acknowledgement: We aim to acknowledge your report within five working days. For complex or multi‑source issues this may take longer, but we will keep you informed.
  • Assessment: The standards desk verifies the error against original sources, interview notes, documents and our internal records. If the error is confirmed, they decide whether it qualifies as a material correction, a minor fix, or a clarification.
  • Correction notice: For material errors, we update the article and append a correction note at the top or bottom. The note reads: “Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated [issue]. The article was updated on [date].” Where a correction changes a headline, that is also noted.
  • Update notes: When we add new information (for example, a later development or additional context) without altering the original facts, we add an update note with the date and a brief explanation.
  • Minor fixes: Spelling, punctuation and grammar errors that do not affect meaning are corrected without public notice.

If an error is serious — for example, it could cause reputational harm, legal risk, or materially mislead public understanding — the case is escalated immediately to Editor‑in‑Chief Edward Langley. He oversees the final decision and, if necessary, a formal correction or retraction.

Response times and transparency

We treat every correction request seriously. While we acknowledge reports within five working days, a full investigation may take longer depending on the complexity. If we cannot resolve it within ten working days, we will update you with a timeline. All correction notes remain on the article permanently so that readers who came across the original version can see what changed.
