Tip Us

We rely on our readers, sources and contributors to help us uncover the stories that matter most to people across the United Kingdom. If you have information, a document, an observation or an idea that you believe deserves the attention of our newsroom, we want to hear from you. The Tip Us page explains what we are looking for, how to get in touch and what happens after you submit a tip.

What makes a good tip

We are interested in stories that affect daily life in the UK — from government decisions and public spending to business developments, consumer issues, workplace stories, cultural events and regional developments. A strong tip often involves a clear public interest angle: something that people need to know, that holds power to account, or that illuminates a trend or problem affecting communities.

Examples of the kinds of tips we pursue include:

  • Government decisions or policy changes that have not been widely reported
  • Public spending or procurement stories, including contracts, grants or subsidies
  • Business developments, such as mergers, closures, layoffs or regulatory issues
  • Consumer issues, including hidden fees, product safety concerns or unfair practices
  • Workplace stories, from employment conditions to whistleblower accounts
  • Cultural events, trends or developments that reflect broader social or economic shifts
  • Things affecting everyday life in the UK, such as changes to public services, transport, housing or the cost of living

We do not publish rumours, speculation or unverified claims. If you are unsure whether your tip fits, send it to us anyway — we will assess it against our editorial standards.

How to reach us

Please use the following email addresses to direct your tip to the right team:

For all other enquiries, including general contact, corrections, complaints or legal matters, please see our Contact page.

What to include in your tip

To help us assess your submission quickly and thoroughly, please include as much of the following as possible:

  • Who, what, when, where: the people involved, the subject of the tip, the timing and the location
  • Supporting materials: documents, emails, photographs, videos, data, links or any other evidence that supports your tip
  • Your contact details: name, phone number and email address (we will keep these confidential unless you agree otherwise)
  • On or off the record: please state clearly whether you are speaking on the record, on background or off the record. We will respect your wishes and discuss any use of your information before publication

If you are unsure about any of these elements, send what you have — we can follow up with questions.

How we verify tips

Every tip we receive is reviewed by our Standards & Fact-Checking Desk, led by Oliver Trent. Our verification process includes source verification, cross-referencing with public records, document analysis and, where appropriate, direct interviews. We never present rumours as facts. For more detail on our approach, please see our Fact-Checking Policy and our Sources & Standards page.

We take confidentiality seriously. If you wish to submit information anonymously or under a pseudonym, please indicate this clearly. For legal or data protection concerns, contact legal@eveningledger.uk. Your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

What happens after submission

We aim to acknowledge receipt of all tips within five working days. If your tip is selected for further investigation or publication, a member of our editorial team will contact you. Due to the volume of submissions, we may not be able to provide detailed updates on every tip, but we read and assess each one carefully.

If you have not heard from us within five working days, you are welcome to follow up via the relevant email address above or through our Contact page.

Corrections and complaints

If you believe we have published an error in connection with a tip or any other story, please send details to corrections@eveningledger.uk. Our corrections policy is available at /corrections-policy/. For formal complaints, please refer to our Complaints Procedure.

We value your trust and your contribution to our journalism. Thank you for helping us report the stories that matter.
