Sponsored Content Policy

EveningLedger.uk is committed to transparency in all our commercial relationships. This Sponsored Content Policy explains how we distinguish paid promotional material from our independent editorial journalism, and how we ensure our readers can always tell the difference.

What is sponsored content?

Sponsored content is material that has been paid for by a commercial partner, brand, or organisation and published on EveningLedger.uk. It may take the form of articles, features, videos, infographics, or other formats. Unlike our independent editorial content, sponsored content is created or commissioned by the paying partner, though we retain the right to review it for compliance with our editorial standards and legal requirements.

How we label sponsored content

Every piece of sponsored content on EveningLedger.uk is clearly and prominently labelled so that readers can immediately identify it as promotional. We use one or more of the following labels, displayed at the top of the page and, where appropriate, within the article itself:

  • “Sponsored by [Brand]”
  • “Advertisement feature”
  • “Paid partnership with [Brand]”
  • “In association with [Brand]”

These labels are never hidden, minimised, or made ambiguous. Sponsored content may also be visually distinguished from editorial content through the use of different typography, borders, or background shading.

Rules and boundaries

Our rules for sponsored content are straightforward and non-negotiable:

  • All sponsored content is always clearly labelled. No exceptions.
  • Commercial partners have no approval over independent editorial reviews, news articles, or opinion pieces — unless the material is itself clearly labelled as sponsored. Our editorial team retains full control over all independent content.
  • Sponsored material is never disguised as independent editorial. We do not publish “native advertising” that mimics the look and feel of our news reporting without explicit labelling.
  • Sponsored content must not make false or misleading claims. We reserve the right to reject or request changes to any material that violates our standards or applicable law.

How sponsorship differs from affiliate links and independent reviews

It is important to understand the distinction between sponsored content, affiliate links, and independent reviews. Sponsored content is paid for by a brand and is promotional in nature. Affiliate links, by contrast, are links to products or services that may earn EveningLedger.uk a small commission if you make a purchase — but the editorial content containing those links remains independent and is not controlled by the brand. For full details, see our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure.

Independent reviews are written by our editorial team without payment from the subject of the review. They reflect our honest assessment and are never influenced by commercial relationships. Our Reviews Policy explains how we maintain this independence.

Editorial independence

EveningLedger.uk’s editorial independence is fundamental to our mission. No commercial partner — whether through sponsorship, advertising, or any other arrangement — has the right to dictate, approve, or influence our independent editorial coverage. Our Editorial Policy and Ownership & Funding page provide further detail on how we safeguard this principle.
